We performed this test with a .080" steel pin using a 2" wide (effective) piece of Carbinge.
We were pleasantly surprised to find a limit load of 1,000 lbs. for this hinge sample. The hinge did not fail at this load, but the pin distorted very slightly. We have computed a new load rating based on this test. Carbinge is now rated at 3,000 lbs. per foot with a 100% safety factor. This is an increase of 300% over the former rating of 1,000 lbs. per foot.

|---|---|---|---|
| Accelerated Wear | 1.5 | 2400 | no wear or breakdown detected |

| End Bearing Wear test** | 1.25 | 64 | <0.0125" wear; no other sign of breakdown |
* Vibration was added to the extended wear test to simulate flutter.
** The End Bearing Wear test included torsional (twisting) stress along the length of the hinge material.
